MESSAGE once a month

 2008/08

A scorching sun and the chirring of cicadas in chorus – it is just the height of summer!
Best wishes for your health in the hot season.

I have been working hard lately outside at the garden (mainly weeding) at the time when sun starts to decline.
Even sweat pouring down my face is pleasure that I cannot have in usual life depending on an air-conditioner.
I keep working silently and innocently enjoying scent of the earth and grass.

Suddenly, “Wait up! Mama!” a voice of a neighbor’s child, my thought reacts realistically.
Why do they call their parents “papa, mama”?
What on earth language is that?
In my travels to many countries in the world looking for flowers, I have never met any foreign children
who use the Japanese words “otou-san, okaa-san” for their parents. It is natural.

In Japan we have beautiful words “otou-sama, okaa-sama”, though.

In old times, we used to say “Chichiue-sama, Hahaue-sama”.
Naturally, polite and beautiful words would follow them…
Mother tongue for the most precious parents…I am deep in my own thoughts.

About two-hour-gardening is time of supreme bliss to me for fantasy or a daydream.
I watch the sky of twilight with feeling in contentment.

Feeling contented, I see the sky of twilight.
